Why??
Just a few quick reasons why that movie is idiotic.
1) Alien force capable of all that planning and the technology that went into it, but can't protect against bacteria???
2) If they wanted to harvest people for their blood, why all the vaporising early in the movie?
3) Why harvest human blood in the first place? Doesn't make any sense.
4) How did those machines go undetected, especially under major cities where so much drilling and tunneling takes place? Not even one of those things was ever found?
